Midnight at Cowes Harbour

By Pavithra Natarajan

Midnight at Cowes Harbour - a beautiful sight
A thousand coloured lights against the blackest night
across the water their reflections glimmer
soothing, calming, forgive the sinner
as do the waves
for down from the sky floats soft rain
wash away my old life, wash away this pain

Unravelling gently through the air comes a sound
the clink of rigging against rigging
from every boat in this bay
a steady chant, like that of a jungle drum
a secret steel symphony
applauded by the waves

The magic is here
The magic has come.
